Pavement EXPO WEST & EAST

Pavement Maint. EXPO: CHARLOTTE  NC .. JAN. 27-30.

Maybe next year. I did make some sales here at home from my EXPO Special. It was during the EXPO. Even with the new layout Graco, The new green Lazer I still sell Big Foot Weights, Lots of Pre-Marked tapes (More in Tenths all the time). I get a new combine, of stalls every once in a while. Still makes a good sale when you get the stalls you want. Lots of customers only want 3 stalls.

There should have been a new layout out apparatus made from tubbing (looks like) that does a good job of circles and angles. Don't know if you have to do each line or how. But to set angles it should be perfect. Didn't show any thing about radius parking. And a green lazer for long straight in parking. It was done at low lite. Still lots of hand layout. And angles ?????

I guess my layouts and tools are too simple. And way to inexpensive.I would very much like your opinion. I'm sure both will be in Nashville.

I've had good reports on my way of laying out radius/curved lots with my two pole and the radius chain. Way to simple, I've been told!! And perfect line each time and No head scratching!! (Mick gets 1/2 of the credit!!) Any Questions???

Tip: Those Detergent and Softner Bottles

Posted 2-28-11

DO YOU HAVE PROBLEMS POURING CHALK IN THE CHALK BOX ??

TRY USING THE DETERGENT & SOFTENER BOTTLES !!!

Some have the top glued on but with very little effort you can pry the top off, if they still are a little stubborn, heat the top up with a HAIR DRYER or very hot water. With their pour spout, they make a wonderful chalk dispenser. Use a marker and make a line on the bottle were the spout is and you'll have the spout in the right place when you screw off, or pop of the top. Some of those smaller fabric softener bottles also work.

Now you won't have your shoe prints on the pavement when you refill the chalk boxes....

THEY REALLY WORK !! I'VE SENT SOME OF THE 5 LBS. IN TWO OF THE BOTTLES.!!

I've got NEW containers for the powdered chalk. This by far the very best chalk you can buy...a little more expensive but it will get more lines snapped with each pullout...How about 12 - 18' lines..(or more)..Once you get your chalk line broken in..You can start saving the amount of chalk you use.....

If you like I can send some of the chalk in one detergent bottles that I mentioned above.

The chalk comes in 5#, 10#, and 25# tubs.

**note: I tied two of the Keson GX3-100, (w/chalk catchers-$50.00 ea.) together for a customer in Texas. So you can just reel new chalk line out, instead of walking back and forth or just reeling out chalk and dragging it all over. It's picks up lots of dirt that way. That doesn't save much time, it still has to be reeled up. ???? I've never tried this. Keson has a G-110 tied to same line,$50.00-pair,  so you just crank back-an-forth. Two Boxes, one string, lots of chalk, mmmmmmmmmmmmm. !!

I'm sure everyone out there has two old chalk boxes that needs new string. Well, I've got string.

The good woven cotton string.."SPECIAL"..$12.00-165 ft...  (CHECK OUT REPLACEMENT SPOOLS.)   COMES ON A NEW SPOOL W/HANDLE AND NEW STRING FITTINGS.. YES ALL THAT FOR $12.00-- "SPECIAL". 150 FT. ON AN OPEN SPOOL...$8.00                                       Give me a call..Let's see if it works !!

If you have a question for My Layout Manuals, PLEASE ASK !! Maybe you are just starting up a new business or adding Striping to a seal coating business. These manuals are for any person that is having problems with some sort of a layout problem. Or just working alone. I've tried to include ways to speed up or a short cut in area. So Ask !! Also I have a manual for the "RCGT/CHAIN GANG Tool". I have been working on having some of the different lengths ready to work for you.  If you have a particular problem with some kind of layout, Please contact me maybe I can help.

Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it THANKS !!

ONCE AGAIN I'M ADDING PAGES TO THE MANUAL...?? WOW.

NEW !! FROM R.LILES-PARKINGLOTPLANET... HE'S ADDED A "PROTRACTOR" TO HIS SITE. THIS WILL CALCULATE ANY ANGLE AND GIVE YOU ALL THE LENGHTS YOU NEED FOR ANY LAYOUT SITUATION @ ANY ANGLE !!...THANK YOU-THANK YOU,!!! ROBERT !!!    I PRINTED THE STANDARD STALLS AND IT'S IN MY MANUAL !!

You need the manuals ??? There $20.00!!..FREE with the purchase of a Big Foot Layout Tool or a RCGT, on request! I know...I know...you already have some what'somacallit" thing that holds the other end (I hope it's not a paint bucket, that's from the 70's back ) of "thatwhatever".....Do you have to bend over to move it ? Do you have to move the "what-ever" and what it's holding ? That's 2 items, slowing you down ! You don't know that, but anyone that has a Big Foot does. All you have to do is reach over and grab the handle and put it "22 lbs" on the next mark you made for it. That's about about 3 times faster........................... "THAT SAVES YOU..MONEY..$$" If you still have doubts about a Big Foot, Ask Robert Lilies at one of the Expo Shows.

You will pay for your BIG FOOT, EASY, your first month, maybe the first couple of days.. Let's figure this out for you ... The BIG Foot cost $125. If you need help with a layout.... One person at $15.00 per hr. x 8 hrs. ... $120.00. OK maybe two days wages.. even so, Maybe a good employee, maybe not .. $120.00 gone and with taxes etc. ... The Big Foot will last FOR EVER, if YOU take care of it and don't leave it on a job site. And it saves you a employee !!! Or now you have an EXTRA employee, no insurance, he's always on time (he stays in the truck), no meals, just take care of it. $$$$$$$ He's your buddy for life. Read satisfied customers.... !!!!!!!!

I've updated the LAYOUT MANUAL, again. I've added several more pages and illustrations. IT'S ALL ABOUT GETTING A 90 DEGREE, SQUARING UP A LOT. Painting several 90 degree double rows at the same time. HOW TO FIND 45`,60`, 65`, 70`& MORE ANGLES. Parallel parking. 90° on a radius. Saving the length of line to be painted, for the next layout job. OTHER TIME SAVING HINTS. IT'S FREE WITH A BIG FOOT ORDER.

4-13-13: NEW !! A NEW ILLUSTRATION ON THE NESTED/INTERLOCKING  LAYOUT, HAD SOME QUESTIONS, S0 I ADDED IT TO THE MANUAL.

I'VE ADDED A COUPLE OF SITE PLANS THAT WHERE USE TO LAYOUT NEW PROJECTS. JUST LIKE YOU WILL BE USING IF YOUR JUST STARTING UP.

I keep adding to this Manual it's getting bigger. People give me ideas and ask questions..it never stops...........GOOD, I LIKE THAT. !

If you are looking for information about Laying out the "tuff jobs" From Mick's Classes ... I've added that in with the Radius-Chain Gang info. It's all about using the "Triangles" short cuts and laying out radius/curve lots by yourself.  "MIDDLE School Geometry". (??)

Comes with the "Radius-Chain Gang" ...New Stuff!! and you save $45.00 with the two combined !!! Check It Out !!!

Well, I finally used one one of the large protractors..never had used one before....usually they are a waste of time and hard to use and be sure you 100% correct....This was with a 70° angle. Every time I come across a strange angle, I would take my time and I would copy down and SAVE these measurements for the future. For instance: on a 70°, and your coming out 18 ft. from curb, the length of line to be painted is: 19'4". Copy this down for the future..an while your at it, come out 17' from curb and copy this down too, do the same for 19' out from the curb. "Parkinglotplanet.com/protractor"

Next time you have to use any angle, 1. come out from the curb that distance, 2. from any point on the curb, come out the "line" length, where it crosses the distance out from the  curb you  have the correct angle, and your ready to do the layout. If you purchase a BIG FOOT this info. will come with the "LAYOUT MANUAL". Several New Ideas have been added to the Manual.    Now you won't ever have to get the protractor out or do a 90° and divide. I did this years ago with angles....... Thanks, Bill

Using the Radius Tool

GOOD NEWS!!! I'VE COMBINED THE RADIUS TOOL AND THE CHAIN GANG...

THIS WILL LET YOU DO ANY OF THE RADIUS/CURVED JOBS THAT YOU WILL RUN ACROSS. WITH BOTH ITEMS TOGETHER THE COST WILL BE $75.00. You will recover your cost the first time you use this on a large job !!!!!!

YOU WILL GET 75 FT. OF CHAIN, 2- CLAW SNAPS, A CHALK HOLDER, MULTI EXTRA LINKS FOR DIFFERENT PROJECTS, INCLUDED-A 8 ft. TRIANGLE FOR SETTING THE 60 DEGREE PARKING ON A RADIUS. A MANUAL FULL OF INSTRUCTIONS, SUGGESTIONS, AND IDEAS TO HELP YOU FINISH A JOB FASTER.

I WAS HELPING the Co., that bought me out, lay out a Super Walmart Store and we had lots of Handicap Islands and extra large islands all along the front of the store. All had 10 ft. radius on both sides and ends. So with the RADIUS TOOL, I measured off enough chain to do this. (here is a fast link in the kit, if you cut the links, to put the chain back to it's full length.)  Used a colored plastic zip tie or colored marker, to mark this link. Squared off all the corners and drew the radius. This didn't take very long and I had all the corners done when we started the tasked of the"CROSS-HATCHING" layout. FUN! FUN! This could be done with the RR-18 and the chain. Read below !! (So many Handicaps!!)

IT WAS NICE TO HAVE ALL THE RADIUS DONE.

using-radius-toolI did this by myself so the others could get busy with the stall layout.

Another trick I use at this Walmart...If you've done a Walmart lately you know that they want hash marking around the landscaped islands 2' on center.... A 45' length of sm. linked chain, @ every 24" a large zip tie fastened. With the RR-18 a painted a dot over the zip tie. It left a image. Now you have a layout for every 24". NO bending over ! Call me with questions !The chain worked great. !!

<---(Notice the Big Foot is holding my extra tools?, the bag for the chain, the set of plans, extra crayons, chalk box & room for a pre-marked tape.)

The class by "Mick" on "How to Stripe the Tough Jobs" was VERY informative. If you have ever taken in this class you know how Mick tries to help you get through the layout jobs that don't come around very often. In my layout time, I only came across the 60° on a curve a couple of times. (14 YRS. AGO). One was a HP plant. It had "S" shaped parking on all of it's lots! YOU SEE MORE AND MORE CURVED PARKING ALL THE TIME. It's no fun.

If you haven't been to this class. His way is very simple, if you pay attention! And you need a couple of helpers. So, while I'm listening to him, I'm always trying to figure out, how can I do this by myself, with a Big Foot or maybe one other person. (???) Well I think I've got this one down too. (!!) As the picture shows using the Big Foot and the Radius Tool.&.. "The NO bending over tools". (The set of the two poles. I'm using the pole with the chalk holder.) So, if you have both and need some help I've got a up date in the instructions. AS it turns out pretty simple.....Also The 9X18 Layout Chain, for Isle stall layout. This is the 9'x60 degree triangle too  I've got all this down in a "Radius Tool Manual".

So call me...970-482-0049  mtn. time
